Atterbeary, KRA President & CEO, had officially launched the 2012 Community Care Day Campaign, a company-wide initiative created to celebrate the joy of giving and sharing good works with customers and neighbors in the communities the firm serves. Edward Fairley Speaks at KRA VIEW Graduation

On November 30, 2012, the KRA/Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare Program (VIEW) celebrated its 11th Job Readiness Academy (JRA) Class Graduation of 2012.  All customers seeking employment assistance through KRA/VIEW must participate in the JRA, a month-long work-readiness course focusing on Resume Building, Work Ethics, Professionalism, Budgeting, Team Work, and other “soft skills” necessary to prepare them for community work experience, through the KRA/VIEW Public Service Program, or employment opportunities. KRA/CTWorks Closer to UW Goal

It was reported previously that KRA staff from the North Central Region’s CTWorks Program had set a goal to raise $3,000 by December 14, 2012, for a very deserving cause…the Hartford Area United Way 2012 Fundraising Campaign. To accomplish the goal, staff devised several unique “fun-raising” activities.  On December 5, it was proudly reported that two October and November activities… Dress-Up Jeans Day and Paper T-Shirt Contest…had raised $1,426 toward the goal! KRA “Sharks” Encourage Entrepreneurship

Recently, 12 jobseeker-customers from the KRA/Norfolk VIEW (Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare) Program participated in a creative entrepreneurial “Shark Tank” project…named after the popular television show.  The students, from VIEW’s Job Readiness Academy and Resources for Employment and Learning Center programs, were divided into two groups of six, and instructed to invent a product to “pitch” to a group of potential investors…the Sharks, represented by Timothy Carter, KRA Career Agent; Kirk Houston, KRA Instructor;  Roniko Richardson-Davis, KRA Career Agent Team Leader; and Gina Tanks, KRA Employment Specialist.  To create the new products, the students received instruction in the basics of  utilizing entrepreneurial skills; market

KRA/CTWorks Manchester Open House

Recently, Capital Workforce Partners (CWP), North Central Connecticut’s Regional Workforce Investment Board, and KRA’s client for the operation of the CTWorks Program; the Manchester Adult and Continuing Education Program; and the Manchester Community College co-hosted a combined Grand Re-opening and Open House at the Manchester CTWorks office.  Thomas Phillips, CWP President & CEO, welcomed a throng of guests and stressed the importance of partnerships in providing quality workforce development services for jobseeker-customers in the Manchester area. KRA Disability Employment Operations

On October 1, 2012, the White House Office of the Press Secretary released an announcement that President Obama had issued a Proclamation recognizing October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and calling on “Federal agencies to increase recruitment, hiring, and retention of people with disabilities.”  This was not a new call-to-action for KRA’s Federally-supported Workforce Development Operations across the country.  On a daily basis, KRA project staff provide assistance and support to jobseeker-customers facing varying degrees of physical and/or emotional and mental challenges.  An example of one customer’s experience is provided below. “SC” had been enrolled in KRA’s Virginia Initiative for Employment
