On October 15, 2012, Ernestine Chambers began working for the Work Participation, Placement, and Support Services Program as a KRA Career Agent. In and of itself, this is not a newsworthy accomplishment. However, how she got the job is. Chambers, who is 29, single, and the mother of three, enrolled with the KRA Orientation program as a condition of receiving Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) benefits through the Baltimore Department of Social Services (DSS), KRA’s client agency. KRA and EDD Team Up for Success

Inna Lomack, KRA Business Services Coordinator, San Diego Metro Region One-Stop Career Centers, and Paula Duarte, Business Services Representative, California Employment Development Department (EDD) met with Donna Eddings, HR Manager, San Ysidro Health Center (SYHC) to discuss an important recruitment effort on behalf of SYHC’s newest facility, the King-Chavez Health Center (KCHC), one of 10 health centers operated by SYHC in San Diego County. KRA Attends Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

KRA and CWA: A Meeting of the Minds

Two weeks ago, we reported that on August 1, 2012, Don Scott, KRA Senior Vice President for Workforce Operations, was appointed to the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the California Workforce Association (CWA)* to represent the operators of the State’s One-Stop Career Center Program.  Scott’s appointment was directly related to his experience in this arena, as KRA operates several One-Stops across the country, including four centers in the San Diego Metro area directed by Maxine Suka, KRA Program Manager. Last week, we reported that the KRA Norfolk VIEW (Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare) Program had partnered with the Briggs Home Health Agency, as part of its participation in the Virginia Full Employment Program (FEP), operated by the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) at the state level, and by KRA’s client, the Norfolk Department of Human Services (NDHS) at the local level.  Actually, this new partnership is the most recent of many successful FEP relationships that KRA/VIEW has established since 2008. Through the diligent efforts of Ninette Adams-Terry and Gina Tanks, KRA Employment Specialists, the Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare (VIEW) program, in Norfolk, has partnered with the Briggs Home Health Agency (BHHA), as part of KRA/VIEW’s successful performance and high work-participation rate in the Virginia Full Employment Program.  According to Adams-Terry, “We are now in a much better position to assist more customers who are interested in this line of work to secure employment.  It is particularly encouraging for us that Briggs is willing to consider hiring qualified individuals with criminal backgrounds, which will provide them with a valuable opportunity

KRA Executive Elected NAWDP Chair

On August 17, 2012, Don Scott, KRA Senior Vice President for Workforce Operations, was elected by the Board of Directors of the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP) to be its Chair.  A life-time member of NAWDP*, Scott has served on the Board since 2008, and steps up to the new role from his previous position as Vice Chair, which he held for the past 2 years.  He also served on the Executive Committee, and as a member of the Finance Committee for 4 years, was active in retooling NAWDP’s financial management system.  Scott is also a member of the Executive Committee
