KRA and EDD Team Up for Success

Inna Lomack, KRA Business Services Coordinator, San Diego Metro Region One-Stop Career Centers, and Paula Duarte, Business Services Representative, California Employment Development Department (EDD) met with Donna Eddings, HR Manager, San Ysidro Health Center (SYHC) to discuss an important recruitment effort on behalf of SYHC’s newest facility, the King-Chavez Health Center (KCHC), one of 10 health centers operated by SYHC in San Diego County.

Eddings wanted to ensure that opportunities were provided for qualified area residents to apply for 20 new KCHC positions, and that candidates represented the rich diversity of the residents in the area.  KRA/EDD team leaders and staff sprang into action, planning for one general- and one targeted- job fair event.  Duarte ensured that the open positions were posted on CalJOBS, the State’s online labor-exchange system.  At the same time, other team members conducted a marketing campaign that targeted pre-screened KRA jobseeker-customers, and mailed letters of invitation to all qualified candidates within a 10-mile radius of the new facility.

The recruitment results were overwhelming, in that approximately 200 individuals attended the two job fairs, with half of the 20 openings filled with candidates direct from KRA’s jobseekers’ database.  About the campaign and its results, Eddings stated that the job fairs were” highly successful to our goal of recruiting diversified candidates” and that “we look forward to working together on future projects with the San Diego Metro Career Centers.”

Lomack concluded, “KRA and EDD are integrated in providing workforce development services in the San Diego Region, and we are always pleased to assist a business with their recruiting needs.  We take pride in knowing that SYHC fully utilized our services, which resulted in a positive outcome to put community residents back to work.  Ms. Eddings was very pleased with the outcome of the recruitment events, and as agreed, followed-up with us regarding which individuals were hired once the new facility opened.  She also invited Ms. Duarte and me to attend the KCHC community dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony.”
