On September 7, 2012, Inna Lomack, KRA Business Services Coordinator, San Diego Metro Region One-Stop Career Centers, and Paula Duarte, Business Services Representative, California Employment Development Department, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the San Ysidro Health Center (SYHC) commemorating the opening of the King-Chavez Health Center (KCHC). Lomack and Duarte were special guests of Donna Eddings, HR Manager, SYHC, in that it was the proactive teamwork of KRA/EDD that resulted in the hiring of 10 area KRA jobseeker-customers to fill positions created by the opening of the new facility.
Ed Hernandez, Chief Executive Officer, SYHC, happily accepted proclamations from many State- and local-elected officials, and SYHC staff conducted tours of the new state-of-the art facility. The SYHC network, which employs 815 staff, operates 10 medical clinics, 4 dental clinics, and other programs in San Diego County. The new KCHC, which was made possible by a $9.7 million Federal Stimulus Grant, houses a laboratory, X-ray department, 12 medical exam rooms, and a 10-chair dental department. Adults and children can receive services regardless of ability to pay.
