KRA/VIEW Volunteers Hired…and Honored

Recently, several members of the KRA Corporation/VIEW (Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare) Program team in Norfolk,  attended a Volunteer Appreciation Reception Ceremony hosted by Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center*, a Public Service Site for KRA/VIEW jobseeker-customer volunteers since August 2007.  Ms. Janice Savage, Volunteer Program Coordinator, has hired several KRA/VIEW customers that began working at the Medical Center as volunteers.  So far in 2013, KRA/VIEW has placed six volunteers at DePaul Medical Center, and they have hired four as permanent employees: Tacara Scott, Information Specialist; Tamara Crouch, Certified Nursing Assistant; Latecia Cox, Record Completion Analyst; and Deion Harper, Claims Analyst. KRA/CTWorks’ Botts on TV…Again

For the 3rd year in a row, the KRA/CTWorks One-Stop Program in North Central Connecticut was featured on the local Fox affiliate TV station, Fox 61, in Hartford.  Charles Botts III, KRA Business Services Consultant, appeared on the Good Morning Connecticut show to discuss the advantages of using social media in an effective job-search strategy. Logan Burne, Fox 61 Anchor, asked Botts to explain the proper use of social media tools, specifically LinkedIn*, for jobseekers who want to maximize their job-search efforts. KRA Volunteers at Tri-County Veterans Stand Down

On Saturday, April 27, 2013, a group of students from the KRA/Lower Savannah, SC Youth Employability and Success (YES) Program*, volunteered at the 2013 Tri-County Veteran Stand Down, held at the YMCA in Orangeburg.  KRA/YES has been supporting the SCWorks Disabled Veteran Outreach Program since the 2012 KRA Community Care Day Campaign, Support Our Troops.   For that initiative, KRA/YES lent its support by collecting hundreds of toiletry items…toothpaste, toothbrushes, Q-tips, lotion, washcloths, soap, etc…and donating the large “care basket” to Gene Gartman, Sgt. KRA/Waccamaw Partner Nominates Sales for Award

Last month, Kenneth Sales, Business Services Team Lead, KRA/Waccamaw Region SCWorks One-Stop, was nominated for the Outstanding Workforce System Partner Award by a long-standing and valued  workforce partner, Williamsburg Technical College (WTC)*.  Nominations are being reviewed currently by the State Investment Board, and all nominees will be acknowledged…and the 1st and 2nd place winners announced…at a Luncheon Awards Ceremony on May 14, 2013, as part of a State Workforce Symposium.  Also, Sales has been asked to lead a Symposium workshop, the focus of which will be “Effective Delivery of Business and Employer Services.”  Regardless of the outcome, all of KRA

KRA Staff Selected for Coveted NAWDP Awards

The letter from Bridget Brown, Executive Director of the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP), contained six paragraphs of information and instructions, but all the KRA award winners saw, at first, was “Congratulations! According to Rusty Gaskins, KRA Business Services Representative, “The relationship between the KRA/Waccamaw Region One-Stop and Terra Firma*is a great example of how local small businesses help our WIA participants to receive training and great incentives at the same time. Terra Firma hired two of our customers, one of which was an ex-offender, under On-Job Training (OJT) Program contracts, subsequently offering full time employment to both individuals. Last week, it was reported that KRA, in partnership with the Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL) and Capital Workforce Partners (CWP), KRA’s client, is hosting a series of Open Houses* in the North Central Region.
