KRA/VIEW Volunteers Hired…and Honored

Recently, several members of the KRA Corporation/VIEW (Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare) Program team in Norfolk,  attended a Volunteer Appreciation Reception Ceremony hosted by Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center*, a Public Service Site for KRA/VIEW jobseeker-customer volunteers since August 2007.  Ms. Janice Savage, Volunteer Program Coordinator, has hired several KRA/VIEW customers that began working at the Medical Center as volunteers.  So far in 2013, KRA/VIEW has placed six volunteers at DePaul Medical Center, and they have hired four as permanent employees: Tacara Scott, Information Specialist; Tamara Crouch, Certified Nursing Assistant; Latecia Cox, Record Completion Analyst; and Deion Harper, Claims Analyst.

Alisha Bazemore, KRA Program Manager, commented on the achievement, “It takes a special person to volunteer at DePaul, and KRA/VIEW participants have demonstrated the commitment to helping others and being dependable, as well as the ability to work independently. These are important ‘soft’ skills because of the very demanding nature of healthcare, and these skills transfer to the workplace.”

The KRA/VIEW staff joined Savage, and other representatives of the Norfolk community, to celebrate the volunteers as they received recognition for their dedicated service to DePaul Hospital.  Bazemore concluded, “It was an amazing event to witness how diligent, compassionate, and loyal the volunteers have been to DePaul Hospital, some of whom have been volunteering for almost 20 years!  The Appreciation Reception was truly representative of the great connection that exists between the community, the honorees, and DePaul.  It is my understanding that volunteers have donated 22, 210 hours of time, saving DePaul $444,200 in 2012 alone! That is an incredible achievement.”
