KRA/PG County Staff Bring Holiday Cheer to RMHC

On December 14, 2011, as part of KRA’s annual company-wide Community Care Day Initiative, staff from the Prince George’s Works Tier 1 program celebrated the day by volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House (RMH) in Washington, DC.  Well in advance of the event, Jazmyne Byrd, KRA Career Agent reported, “Donating our time to prepare dinner for the RMH families and children just isn’t enough, so we are collecting soda- and vegetable-can tabs. The RMH volunteer coordinator told us that the Ronald McDonald House Charities organization participates in a program that turns the tabs into cash!  Our staff and customers, in both the Landover and Temple Hills [Maryland] offices, are submitting tabs on a daily basis; we are all excited to be working together to make this tab drive a success. Also, we are soliciting monetary donations from staff to purchase items on a ‘wish list’ provided by the RMH coordinator.”

In the Holiday spirit, wearing Santa hats, Byrd and fellow KRA staffers Nelly Betras, Reginald Black, and Dondrae McGhee arrived at the RMHC, bearing two large bags of gifts, candy canes, and all the foodstuffs for an Italian feast of Shrimp Alfredo with rotini pasta, salad, and homemade garlic bread.  While the meal was being prepared, staff also made holiday cards and snowflake designs for the families, and got to meet a very friendly 2-year old who was in high spirits despite having recently undergone an intestinal implant operation.

Byrd concluded, “The RMH families and staff expressed to us that they were really impressed with the presentation of the meal, as well as the effort that went into preparing and serving it. We all shared a wonderful experience, and KRA/Prince George’s County Works staff look forward to building a lasting relationship with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Washington, DC.”
