On March 6, KRA Staff Present at National, Regional, and State Training Events announced that Corporate Training and Development Coordinator, Joseph Seymour, was presenting The Art of 3-D Presentations – Develop, Design and Deliver and The Art & Science of 5-Star Customer Service in the AJC at the Southeastern Employment & Training Association (SETA) Spring 2020 Conference.
On March 11, SETA convened its closing session—with 500+ participants in attendance—at the Sheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Center Hotel. It was not totally unexpected when, on April 6, South Carolina Governor, Henry McMaster, issued a “shelter-in-place” order as part of the State’s effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 through social distancing.
Seymour commented, “I’m extremely pleased I had the privilege of presenting at SETA on two topics that I am passionate about. Attendance was ‘SRO’, which in retrospect was very gratifying. As it turned out, these would be my last two presentations on the workforce-services conference circuit for quite a while.”
He was referring to the National Association of Job Training Assistance Conference, scheduled for March 30-April 3, in San Francisco—and cancelled on March 19, when California mandated a shelter-in-place order for the entire State. NAJA had accepted all three of Mr. Seymour’s workshop proposals for presentation.
Then, on April 3, Alabama enacted its own social-distancing order, resulting in the cancellation of the AlabamaWORKS Annual Conference scheduled for April 21-23, in Mobile. In addition to two “signature” workshops, Mr. Seymour’s From Transactional to Transformational: Creating an Exceptional Customer Experience had been selected for the Luncheon Keynote Address.
Seymour concluded, “I’m disappointed in the turn of events, but totally appreciative of the reality that these cancellations were critical to the health, safety, and welfare of the country. I get excited anytime I get the opportunity to represent KRA, and am extremely grateful to Mr. Atterbeary [President & CEO] and Mr. Boxall [VP & COO] whose confidence and trust have provided me the opportunity to share my experience and knowledge with my peers throughout my 10+ year career with KRA.”
