Imagine riding three buses for 3 hours, working 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, taking those three buses back home, and raising two children! Now, imagine that Septilla Davis is actually happy to make this trip, 3 days a week, as the first step on a career path that will lead her back to self-sufficiency!
For 11 years, Septilla had worked successfully as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), but when she met with Career Agent Brianna Clark, it was clear she could benefit from “Job Club”, offered by VIEW (Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare), KRA-operated for the Norfolk Department of Human Services.
Brianna commented, “During Job Club, our Employment Specialists guided Septilla in updating her resume and applying for employment online. Within 4 days, she got an interview, and a job with First Star Living Group Home, working as a CNA with special-needs patients—a challenging area with which Septilla is very familiar, as one of her own children requires special care.”
The quick-turnaround results of the support provided to Septilla was so motivating that already, she has enrolled in Tidewater Community College’s Nursing Program to become a Registered Nurse! And, the KRA/VIEW team will continue to support Septilla 100 percent as she continues her journey.
