The San Diego Metro Region American Job Center, KRA-operated for the San Diego Workforce Partnership, set aside March 31, 2015, as Staff Development Day, focusing on team-building and community service, simultaneously.
Considering several much-deserving organizations, they voted to support Meals on Wheels which, based upon seniors’ needs, delivers much more than nutritious food. So, working from a “We Care Packages” list, provided by the local Meals-On-Wheels, each staff member volunteered to donate a 20-count supply of their assigned item.
Program Manager Maxine Suka, reported, “The value of the 800+ donated items was about $680.00, and included dental-hygiene and personal-care products; dish towels, jar-lid openers, and potholders; first-aid kits; pens, stationary, and postage; pill boxes; playing cards and puzzle books; and more!
It was a phenomenal team effort, and with all the ‘fun and frenzy’ of selecting items for the gift bags, including personalized notes, we actually lost count, but are confident close to 80 “We Care Pages” were assembled for Meals-on-Wheels to distribute.
Working together in such a true ‘one-for-all/all-for-one’ atmosphere was a vivid reminder of why KRA places such a high priority on Community Involvement, as part of our ongoing commitment to ‘Developing Workers and Strengthening Communities’!”
