The Non-Custodial Parent Employment Program (NPEP), operated by KRA for the Prince George’s County Department of Social Services, provides job-placement assistance for individuals struggling to stay current with child-support payments, due to lack of employment. Generally, the non-custodial parent is not living with the custodial parent, but in Stephen’s case, he was.
Rhonda Feimster, Career Agent: “When Stephen initially enrolled in NPEP, he was frustrated, not understanding why his case was active, when he was living with the custodial parent. I contacted the referring agency’s Case Manager, and at a subsequent hearing, the judge closed Stephen’s case. However, he still needed a job!”
Hired by one of KRA’s Business Services partners for a 1-week, part-time “bridge” position, Stephen so impressed the employer with his attitude and work ethic, he offered him a permanent full-time position—and, 2 months later, a promotion to supervisor, with a $2/hour pay increase. When Stephen met the KRA/PG 3-month retention benchmark, he received another incentive—a $50 gift card!
KRA/PG NPEP Mission: To assist our customers in obtaining sustainable employment to ensure they are able to consistently contribute to the financial needs of their children. For Stephen, mission accomplished!
