KRA Staff Inspired by Jawanza Kunjufu

On April 1, 2011, KRA/VIEW (Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare) program staff attended the “Garden of Hope Gala”, an urban community outreach program sponsored by Gethsemane Community Fellowship Baptist Church.  The keynoter was the esteemed Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu, who spoke about how important it is for communities to have an array of services, programs, and resources…like KRA/VIEW…available to families and individuals who may be experiencing social, emotional, and economic problems. Dr. Kunjufu, a nationally recognized author, educator, lecturer, and publisher, has been a guest speaker at most universities throughout the U.S., as well as a consultant to a number of urban school districts. He has written 33 books, including national best sellers, about the education, learning styles, etc. of young Black males. He has been featured in Ebony and Essence magazines, has been a guest on BET network shows and the Oprah Winfrey show, and is a frequent guest on the Michael Baisden show. KRA Program Manager, Alisha Bazemore said of his inspiring presentation, “His message reaffirmed the very concepts and ideas that we at KRA instill in our customers that we serve daily.  Moreover, if we begin to plant positive ‘seeds’ in the parents…KRA’s customers…then the seeds will take root, grow, and become inculcated in the children. His compelling speech has encouraged our team to soar above and beyond!”
