The collaboration between the Westside American Job Center (WAJC) and The Will Group began in July 2021, and expanded 2 months later to include the Southside Chatham Education & Workforce Center, both of which KRA operates for the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership.
Ms. Mignonne Barnes, Program Director, reports, “Since studying the short-term hiring needs of The Will Group, members of our Business Services Team have referred four female and five male candidates for jobs in Assembly, Field Auditing, Driving, and Shipping and Receiving.”
These positions offer not only job training and stability, but also opportunities for advancement in the company’s single-solution operation that offers lighting, infrastructure, electrical, manufacturing, and sourcing expertise.
To date, The Will Group has hired two customers, continuing to interview other referrals for consideration. In addition to an Assembler, a Field Auditor position was filled by a candidate elated to discover his job provided opportunities to travel, supporting operations in Indiana, Michigan, and Pennsylvania!
The Will Group, which Crain’s Chicago Business Magazine named one of Chicago’s Biggest Minority Owned Businesses of 2020, is building a 60,000 square-foot facility in the North Lawndale area, with the intent of providing more than 100 new jobs within the community.
To provide a steady pipeline of qualified candidates, the Business Services Team continues to review current and future openings, organizing monthly Virtual Job Fairs—to be “live” next year—targeted to specific positions.
Pamela Hudson, Business Service Representative, concludes, “The Will Group’s ‘top priority…to build strategic partnerships and provide jobs to local residents’ aligns perfectly with our own workforce-development objectives. We are extremely excited about our partnership, affording us the opportunity to provide economic self-sufficiency for many of our customers.”
