The Fall Celebration Dinner Program read “KRA proudly supports the George B. Thomas, Sr. Learning Academy Saturday School Program for developing a sense of self-worth, and instilling the values of knowledge, responsibility, and achievement in our children, who are indeed our future. As a National Leader in Workforce Development, we believe that Knowledge is an important commodity; that Responsibility is an important attribute; and that Achievement is a critically important goal.”
That was the inspirational message from Knowlton R. Atterbeary, President & CEO, KRA Corporation—the Platinum Star Sponsor of the event—that welcomed the esteemed guests, including member-elect Vanessa E. Atterbeary in her first public appearance since being elected to the Maryland House of Delegates, District 13.
Since 1986, the Saturday School has provided tutoring and mentoring for Montgomery County children, grades 1-12, in reading/language arts and mathematics—knowledge and skills essential to their achievement in school, in the workplace, and in life.
The Saturday School, whose major founding sponsor was the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, of which Mr. Atterbeary is a long-standing member, started with 21 children and 17 volunteer tutors. Today, led and certified teachers and supported by volunteers, it serves more than 3,000 students annually in 12 centers. The Fall Celebration was organized specifically to raise funds for additional tutors in Montgomery County Public Schools.
