KRA Opens Second Construction Academy in Maryland

KRA is a licensed provider of the Home Builders Institute (HBI) award-winning PACT (Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate Training) Program, based on its proprietary National Construction Skill Standards, as well as National Association of Home Builders National Green Building Standards.

On September 4, 2018, KRA opened its first Construction Academy, in Anne Arundel County, implementing PACT curriculum, which provides core skills for graduates to compete for entry-level and/or semi-skilled job opportunities across multiple specializations in the construction industry.

For the Baltimore City Department of Social Services (BCDSS), KRA operates the Work Participation, Placement, and Support Services Program, assisting TANF-TCA jobseekers to increase sustainable-employment options through myriad workforce-readiness programs, including Occupational Skills Training (OST) provider-partnerships.

Greg Alexander, Program Manager, commented, “KRA/Baltimore City is pleased to add HBI to our OST-provider roster, with the Knowledge 2 Career Construction Academy (K2C-CA) co-funded by the BCDSS for TANF-TCA customers and the Mayor’s Office of Employment Development for WIOA-eligible Youth.”

The K2C-CA will open on November 2, offering PACT’s competency-based instruction model that allows students to advance at their own pace, completing the program, on average, within 12 weeks.

Responding to current Workforce and Labor Market Information industry trends, K2C-CA training will focus on certification in Residential Carpentry and Facilities Maintenance, preparing graduates for a wide range of local, in-demand job opportunities.

Additionally, K2C-CA graduates will receive an OSHA-10 Card, after completing a 10-hour course that covers general safety and health hazards for entry-level workers.
