When Chuck found himself unexpectedly laid off after 6 years as an Accountant for a local company, he turned to OhioMeansJobs (OMJ) Medina County for support and guidance. With determination and a willingness to take advantage of every available resource, he transformed a challenging situation into a new career opportunity.
Chuck enrolled in the WIOA Dislocated Worker Program on August 14, 2026, and immediately began working with Betty Holnapy, his Career Coach, and other OMJ staff, embracing feedback designed to help him stand out in a competitive job market by participating in career-coaching sessions, strengthening his job-search strategy, updating his resume, and refining his interviewing skills.
One area he focused on intently was communicating with more enthusiasm during interviews, which helped him connect more effectively with potential employers he met at an OMJ Job Fair in Brunswick that provided opportunities for networking with employers, sharing his resume, practicing his professional “pitch”, and gaining invaluable experience and confidence throughout the process.
Chuck remained proactive throughout his job search, diligently following up on leads and staying in regular contact with Ms. Holnapy. His persistence resulted in success less than a month after enrolling in OMJ Medina, when he accepted a Controller/Accountant position, with a Cleveland-based staffing and recruitment agency.
Reflecting on his experience, Chuck shared, “Ohio Means Jobs has been an invaluable partner in my job search. Their encouragement, guidance, and resources helped me stay focused, confident, and connected to real opportunities. Their support kept me encouraged during the job search.”
Chuck’s success story demonstrates the impact of combining personal determination with professional resources and support, empowering him to return to work in his field at an advanced career level. His journey serves as an inspiring reminder to jobseekers that utilizing available workforce services, networking opportunities, and expert guidance can lead to meaningful employment outcomes.
