KRA Monthly Spotlight!

Honoring Those Who Served and Sacrificed

In 1996, the Armed Services YMCA organization designated November as National Veterans and Military Families Month, with the U.S. Government recognizing the occasion every year since.

KRA is grateful to our Veteran-Employees, and the families that supported them, for their service, and to Kevin Mayo, Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist; Mike Wolske, Career Coach; and Tim Wright, Corporate QA Manager for volunteering a selected profile of their military experience.

With KRA for only 3 months, Kevin has worked diligently, carving out his place in the company and applying his military-leadership skills to maximum advantage.  He served in the USAF, 2005-2009, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant with primarily stateside assignments.  However, his service did take him all over the world, including Africa and Germany. Kevin “is forever grateful to have served his country, crediting his enlistment for the discipline, structure, and technical training” that transformed his career path.

Mike, with 3+ years’ KRA tenure, served in the USAF Active Service, 1972-1976, achieving the rank of Sergeant, E-4. Three years’ high school Russian-language and culture courses led to his assignment to the Defense Language Institute—until he “came out against the Viet Nam conflict, declaring [himself] a conscientious objector.” Transferred to Lackland AFB, he managed a 3-4 person military detail that supported myriad Base Library operations. Mike also engaged in Disaster Preparedness Drills, staffing the Situation Board.

During 1996-2002, Tim, a 15-year KRA veteran, was a US Navy Lead Petty Officer on the USS Crommelin, Pearl Harbor, HI.  As Lead Maintenance Technician for multi-million dollar shipboard sonar systems, he was responsible for testing/maintaining 47 separate electronics consoles and systems; training/supervising personnel in sonar systems’ electronic testing/troubleshooting; and coordinating/monitoring the duties of six specialized technicians. A 4-time recipient of both the Navy Achievement and Good Conduct Medals, Tim also served in the US Navy Reserves, 2003-2020, as an Integrated Training Team Evaluator with the Naval Maritime Expeditionary Security Group, Portsmouth, VA.
