KRA Customer Discovers What a Difference Preparation Makes

Linda Brown, 52, had all the “right stuff”, an AA Degree in Business Administration, an exceptionally strong work history in customer service, a positive attitude, and high motivation to return to the workforce after she lost her job.  So, why couldn’t she find a job?

According to Michaela Smalls, Career Agent with PGWorks, operated by KRA for the Prince George’s County [MD] Department of Social Services, “It had been awhile since Linda job-hunted, so she lacked the workforce-preparation savvy needed for today’s job market.  And, her resume was not inspiring employers to offer interviews.”

Michaela and David Veney, Job Developer, worked intensely with Linda for 2 weeks, assessing her job-readiness, and assisting her with basic-skills upgrading; job-application development; job-search strategies; interview preparation, including proper attire; “soft” skills in the workplace; and importantly, resume enhancement.

Michaela concluded, “Two months on the job now, Linda thoroughly enjoys her position, especially because she gets to put her customer-service, ‘people-person’ skills into high gear, helping individuals and families begin their new lives in their new homes.”
