KRA Contributes to Inmate Transition

On July 29, 2011, in partnership with SC Works, the State’s One-Stop Career Center delivery system KRA Business Service Representative Kenneth Sales and KRA Career Agent Toshia Jones visited the FCI Federal Prison in Salters, South Carolina to participate in a Mock Career Fair for the benefit of inmates when they are released.  To assist in preparing inmates for transition into today’s job market, Sales and Jones conducted “employment interviews” and provided structured feedback to help inmates’ responses address a critical employment barrier they are more than likely to encounter. Due to the success of the Fair, FCI invited KRA to return on September 16, 2001, to conduct an employability workshop on resume development and employment readiness skills.  In addition, Sales has been invited to return once a month to conduct training in “soft skills”…the nontechnical skills, abilities, and traits that workers need to function effectively in the workplace. Soft skills include problem-solving and other cognitive skills, oral communication skills, personal qualities and work ethics, and interpersonal and teamwork skills.
