On September 1, 2010, Thomas Davis, KRA Corporation Education and Case Management Specialist, held an Orientation for five new enrollees, 16 to 21, in the YES (Youth Employability and Success) Program, a recent addition to Camden program services.
In addition to the traditional orientation about program requirements, responsibilities, and opportunities, Davis gave them an unusual assignment to help them gain an understanding of the value of team work: build a bridge using only Popsicle sticks and small building blocks! During the exercise, the youth shared with each other some of their life experiences, reflected on their lives, and shared how they saw themselves within the bridge-building process.
As they completed this project, some expressed that building the bridge was, for them, building a bridge to future opportunities through YES!.
