The KRA Knowledge2Career (K2C) Academy, funded by The Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network, offers Out-of-School Youth, 17-21, a wide range of customized workforce-development services, two of which are Occupational Skills Training, linked directly to industry-recognized credentialing, and paid work experience (PWE) opportunities with area partner-employers.

One such industry sector—Hotel and Tourism—celebrated its best year ever in 2017, as a major employer and contributor to the City of Long Beach economy, and recently expanded its pool of trained professionals when four KRA/K2C Academy customers were credentialed by the American Hotel & Lodging Association as Certified Front-Desk Representatives.

Long Beach - Sheila Perhacs - 250 pixelsSheila Perhacs, one of the young adults who received AHLA-certification, is extremely excited about both full- and part-time employment opportunities available to her. Many agencies, business, and community organizations in Long Beach need trained personnel with hospitality-oriented “people’ skills.”

She is currently interviewing with local employers that partner with the KRA/K2C Academy to provide up to 100 PWE hours, which will expand her knowledge and skills in a real-world, hands-on environment. In addition, Sheila will begin studies at Long Beach City College this month to pursue her long-term career goal in the field of Forensic Science.

KRA congratulates Sheila, and all of our K2C Academy customers, who work diligently to ensure brighter, financially stable futures for themselves and their families.
