Unique Recruitment Strategy for KRA/San Diego Business Customers

Deona Dorsey, Operations Manager-Special Projects, and Terrance Bowens, Workshop Facilitator, contacted three of the area’s largest employers…San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS), University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and SeaWorld…offering a creative, individualized strategy for filling open positions: Hiring Information Sessions.

During each SeaWorld and MTS session at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Workforce Development Center (WDC)–one of five Career Centers operated for the San Diego Workforce Partnership–jobseekers met with recruiters to learn about available openings, the hiring process, and how to apply and follow-up.

Diana Saldivar, Social Media Coordinator, commented, “In addition to traditional advertising methods used locally, we posted #GetHiredWednesdays and #EmployerWednesdays on Facebook and Twitter, 2 weeks prior to each session.  On the day of the event, jobseekers used the hashtags to view the session on Periscope, a live video application.  For MTS, which was recruiting for Bus Operators, we had 15 WDC attendees and 95+ Periscope viewers!

UCSD is scheduled for December 2nd, and we are adding a session for longstanding business customer–YMCA–a week after that. Also, MTS has requested another hiring-session targeting Customer Service Representatives.  We believe we have developed a recruitment strategy that will appeal to more of our current business partners, as well as new customers in the region.”
