One year ago today, the Maryland Secretary of Labor, Licensing and Regulation announced that the Baltimore City Mayor’s Office of Employment Development (MOED) had received a $5M demonstration grant, part of a $22M nationwide USDOL grant to seven urban areas with high youth unemployment, “to develop innovative job training strategies and work opportunities for at-risk youth and young adults.” Industries targeted in the Federal grant  included Construction, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Technology, and Transportation/Logistics. KRA Creates Virtual Job Fair (VJF)…

…with the DC Public Charter School Board, Rocketship Education , and the TANF Employment Program, operated by KRA for the DC Department of Human Services, to recruit and screen candidates to fill counseling, teaching,  and general-construction positions.  The VJF utilizes Twitter’s Blab.im live-streaming application. KRA advertised VJF availability through several venues, convened a successful “mock” VJF to test functionality, and scheduled the live event for February 9, 2016. The KRA Alameda County Business Development Group (BDG) has been uniquely positioned to spearhead the Alameda County WIB’s effort to assist Tesla Motors with filling 400 production-assembly positions. Our Spotlight! is shining brightly on a new collaboration between the KRA/DC TANF Employment Program (TEP), managed for the Department of Human Services; KRA/PGWorks, operated for the Prince George’s County Department of Social Services; and  Emergency 911 Security, a new business partner that has demonstrated its enthusiasm and commitment to the DC Metro-area customers we serve.
