Sylvia Henry, KRA Operations Manager, Las Vegas One-Stop Career Centers (OSCC), reports, “When Workforce Connections (WC) selected KRA to manage the OSCC operation, we offered services for WIOA, Welfare and Supportive Services, and Community Service Block Grant jobseekers through one Comprehensive OSCC site and a network of library-affiliates that had expanded to 10 sites by January 2018.
Two years later, we found ourselves in the grip of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, fueling an economic downturn that has devastated businesses nationwide.
To provide assistance and support to Las Vegas-region employers during these challenging times, a multi-partner collaboration—WC/KRA, the Nevada Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation, the Nevada Department of Business and Industry, the Vegas Chamber, and the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District—resulted in the creation of two Employ NV Business Hubs.
Through the Hubs, now open in the Sahara West Library and the Vegas Chamber, located at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts, employers can access a wide range of recovery and survival tools—business planning, funding sources, information, training, et al—available through local, state, regional, and Federal workforce-development systems.
Staffed with teams of Business Services experts, knowledgeable about assisting employers navigate these systems to unlock resources they may not be aware of, the Hub facilities are equipped with the latest technology; computers and Wi-Fi for small-business owners or start-ups; and several unique areas for hosting employer- and industry-networking events and workshops.
Ms. Henry concluded, “Through WC, we are excited to have been a contributor to the conceptualization and development of this innovative Business Hub endeavor, and consider it an integral addition to our Las Vegas OSCC operation.”
