Recently, Joseph L Seymour, Training and Development Coordinator, CTWorks American Job Center–operated by KRA for Capital Workforce Partners (CWP)–received the Dr. Albert J. Kerkin  Award that honors outstanding contributions from a Vernon Regional Adult-Based Education (VRABE) community partner.

When CWP/KRA collaborated with VRABE on developing a work-readiness program for its students, Joe, a Certified Professional Resume Writer, volunteered for several reasons,  from a professional development perspective.

However, one personal motivation was to be of service to the residents of the Vernon, CT community, where he lives.  It is prophetic that Dr. Kerkin also served Vernon’s residents, as Superintendent of Schools from 1982 to 1992.

Once-a-month, beginning in September 2014, Joe–winner of the NAWDP 2015 Professional Development Award–imparted his considerable knowledge in resume development, job-search strategies, and interviewing do’s-and-don’ts to 150 participants.  From career professionals to first-time jobseekers, some students faced serious impediments to employment, including developmental and learning disabilities, criminal records, and language barriers.

Joe stated, “This program was one of the most challenging, as well as the most rewarding,  experiences I’ve had.  And, even though I was the one chosen for this wonderful award, it was really a team effort. My KRA/CTWorks colleagues supported me all the way, contributing their extensive subject-matter expertise.  My sincere thanks to everyone!”
