KRAchievers Still Going Strong in Fight Against Cancer

Since 2008, the all-volunteer team, KRAchievers, has organized fundraising activities and events to support the American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay for Life Campaign.  The KRAchievers—staff of the VIEW (Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare) Program, operated by KRA Corporation for the Norfolk Department of Human Services— raised just-shy-of $600.00 for the ACS Campaign, matching their 2012 goal.  Led by Team Captain, Andrea Burfoot (Career Agent Team Leader) and Co-Captain, Marcus Anthony (Career Agent) the group hosted their Annual Relay for Life Barbeque Cook-out, as well as a Candy Sale.

The event was held in October, in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but the KRAchievers have sponsored cancer-awareness events at various times of the year.  Previous successful fundraisers have included a Benefit Concert with the band Soulon, and an Applebee’s “Dining to Donate” event, where 20 percent of the proceeds were contributed to the ACS.

Burfoot concluded, “Our KRAchievers team is passionate about supporting the cause to find a cure for all cancers, and we celebrate life daily by wearing all the different colors that represent the different types of cancer.  During October, we wore pink clothing and ribbons to work.  Also, we made pink paper ribbons, with slogans about breast cancer on them, which we gave out to the loyal and generous contributors who attended our fundraising event.  Great strides have been made in cancer research, prevention, and treatment.  We hope our efforts have played a small part in that progress.”
