KRA/Camden "Changed My Life"

Desiree, 27, enrolled in the Job Skills Training Directly Related to Employment Program, KRA-operated for the Camden County [NJ] Workforce Investment Board, with two significant barriers to employment: no previous work experience and no high school diploma.

She expressed feeling “defeated” from the very beginning.  However, Instructor Nigel Charles and Job Developer Sabriya Wise dedicated themselves to motivating Desiree toward completing her education and obtaining gainful employment, developing a two-phase barrier-removal plan to overcome her challenges.

Nigel created a vigorous Individual Learning Plan, focused on improving Desiree’s TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) scores to the level of proficiency required for taking the TASC  (Test Assessing Secondary Completion) high-school equivalency exam.

As Desiree progressed, Sabriya began working with her on job-interview training, practicing presentation skills that would maximize her unique soft-skills abilities and minimize her lack of a work history.

Camden - TASC CertificateOne week after Desiree learned that she had passed the TASC, and received her high school diploma, she interviewed with Vape Station LLC, and accepted a job offer for a Customer Service and Sales Representative position.

On the last day of her program participation, Desiree remarked to other KRA/Camden customers, “I can’t believe that in 1 month, I’ve been able to change my whole life!”
