"KRA Teamwork Makes the Dream Work"

So commented Gina Tanks, Employment Specialist, KRA/VIEW (Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare).  “In January, we kicked-off a ‘Get the Word Out Campaign’ for a June [National Job Fair Month] Employment Fair.

Norfolk - People in QueueOpen to the public, it was the largest Fair we’ve hosted in the past 10 years.  At 9:00 am, more than 260 people were queued at the door of the Norfolk Workforce Development Center!”

Aimed at lowering Norfolk’s 6.1%  unemployment rate, the KRA/VIEW team issued press releases, posted announcements on SoMe and job-search sites, and contacted a host of local partners, including the Norfolk office of the VA Employment Commission, colleges,  and housing authorities.

Co-hosted by KRA Client, the Norfolk Department of Human Services, more than 35 private-sector businesses attended, representing a diverse range of industries–appliance/furniture rental, fast-food, grocery chains, home healthcare, retail distribution and sales, transportation–as well as public-sector employers, including the Hampton Roads Sanitation District and the Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation and Police Departments.

Gina concluded, “We believe the Fair was a huge success. Some Recruiters accepted resumes to screen later, others referred qualified candidates to apply on their websites, and some went a step further.  Adecco Staffing scheduled 60 interviews, intending to fill about one-third of their open positions!”
