The American Job Center of Nevada (AJCN) is the hub of the comprehensive Reno-based One Stop Career Center (OSCC) system, operated by KRA for the NevadaWorks WDB collaboratively with an exceptional network of co-located agencies including Nevada JobConnect, the Nevada DHHS, the Department of Employment, Training & Rehabilitation (DETR), and Truckee Meadows Community College, to name a few.
On July 28, 2021, the AJCN hosted a Job Fair & Career Expo at the Reno Town Mall, which was buzzing with excitement generated by 225 jobseekers, numerous OSCC-partners, and 19 of the area’s leading employers…paying a minimum of $17.00 an hour!
In the morning, jobseekers could participate in workforce-readiness workshops on Resume Building, Interviewing, and Soft Skills, with some creating jobseeker profiles through EmployNV, the state’s largest job bank, to prepare for one-on-one meetings with employer representatives later in the day.
Onsite, DETR staff were actively “matching” profiles with the needs identified by recruiting employers, representing a variety of in-demand industries including construction, logistics, manufacturing, and technology.
The afternoon was devoted to jobseeker-employer networking sessions, with each hoping to find that perfect “match”.
Robin Walsh, KRA Program Manager, commented, “Over the next couple of months, we anticipate a majority of jobseekers will be contacted to interview, and possibly receive offers, for various forklift, local and long-haul driving, administrative, and IT support positions.
“One customer, with a new resume in hand, summed up her experience saying, ‘I am so grateful for the support I always receive here at the AJCN, and now…I might have a job sooner than expected!’.”
