KRA/Reno Blends In-person and On-line Service Delivery

Operated by KRA for NevadaWorks, the Northern Nevada Workforce Board, the American Job Center of Nevada (AJCN), which due to COVID-19 restrictions discontinued public access to the facility in March, resumed in-person services in September.

Mike Smith, KRA Program Manager, commented, “Since we reopened, after the 6-month hiatus, we discovered that many current and new customers really need assistance in developing basic computer skills, as well as writing resumes and preparing for job interviews.

We were fortunate to find a one-stop solution, New Horizons Computer Learning Centers, right in our own Reno Town Mall ‘backyard’, and negotiated with them to upload recorded seminars on these topics on our KRA desktops.  Now, customers can access them on-demand, free anytime during the day.

Under these ‘new normal’ conditions, and beyond, the Reno/AJCN team will continue to provide the best possible blend of in-person and on-line services to enhance workplace-development opportunities for both our Career- and Business-Services customers.”

On another front, with the Thanksgiving Holiday approaching, the Reno/AJCN team decided to create a “Turkeylogy” word-scramble game for customers to complete, in-person or by e-mail, and return to enter a drawing for a Turkey and Ham dinner, compliments of KRA and its co-located partner agencies.

On November 23, two winners’ names were drawn randomly, one of which was Regina Johnson.  When presented with the dinner, she stated, “I was very worried about being able to afford Thanksgiving this year, but you all put my mind at ease and now I can feed my family.”
