KRA Vice President & COO, Patrick Boxall, and Corporate Counsel, Vanessa Atterbeary, recently had the opportunity to recognize Autism Awareness Month at the Howard County Autism Society (HCAS) Annual Awards Ceremony and Gala.
Headlined by John P. Hussman, Ph.D., Director of the Hussman Foundation, which supports autism awareness and autism research, the event also featured Carol A. Beatty, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Disabilities, and Allan Kittleman, Howard County Executive.
The speakers’ comments highlighted the importance of effectively including youth and adults with autism into the community, affirming national, State, and local efforts to achieve this goal.
According to Boxall, who is also an HCAS board member, “The upsurge in the incidence and diagnosis of autism means there is a heightened level of urgency in the autism community around lifespan issues, including employment. At KRA, we can see how significant the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) will be in more closely aligning the public workforce development system with efforts by organizations like HCAS. KRA is excited to support disability employment initiatives here in Maryland, and in every community we work in around the country.”
