On November 23, 2011, Knowlton R. Atterbeary officially launched the firm’s 2011 Community Care Day, a company-wide initiative created in 2009 to celebrate the joy of giving and sharing good works with customers and neighbors in the communities the firm serves. He stated, “With each passing year, I feel an increased sense of pride in the commitment that KRA and its staff demonstrate to the communities we serve. Staff at every project site and HQ regularly volunteer time and expertise, or raising financial or in-kind donations, to support a wide variety of community causes. Then, once a year, we increase the impact of our volunteer effort by choosing one initiative to support. As we go into the Holiday season, I am pleased to announce that next month, you will have the opportunity to participate in KRA’s 3rd Annual Community Care Day, a celebration of the volunteer work we do, and the people we serve through our collective effort.”
This year, KRA is focusing that effort on a partnership with the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), the parent organization of the international network of Ronald McDonald Houses that provides a “home-away-from-home” for families so they can stay close by their hospitalized children at little or no cost. Between December 4th and 17th, 2011, staff from each KRA project site and HQ will be supporting a local Ronald McDonald House, or in one case group homes for youth, as there is no Ronald McDonald House nearby. Each site has chosen its own volunteer task(s)…from preparing/serving home-cooked meals, to planting flowers/garden clean-up, to helping the children bake cookies/cupcakes, to soliciting donations (clothing, games, sports equipment, etc.) In addition, since October 31st, KRA staff have been soliciting donations…non-perishable food items, clothing, and school supplies… from local businesses, as part of a Help KRA Corporation Service 100 Families effort, which is part of the Community Care Day initiative. All items collected will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House that each project site has partnered with for support.
Mr. Domonique Goode, a KRA Quality Assurance Team Lead, and Community Care Day Coordinator for the company, stated, “Like RMHC, KRA has an impact, one person, family, or business at a time, in a lot of different communities. When the Community Care Day Committee…volunteer coordinators from each KRA site…learned that, on behalf of 4 million children and their families, volunteers are the backbone of the RMHC organization, we proposed to HQ that KRA get involved to support this wonderful organization. We are proud to join the ranks of more than 30,000 volunteers from around the world who save the Charity $40 million a year!”
