On September 19th, the San Diego County Career Centers, operated by KRA for the San Diego Workforce Partnership—winner of the 2018 NAWB National WIOA Trailblazer Award—hosted its third Annual Job-I-Con Hiring Fair, an extremely beneficial event for jobseekers and employers alike.
Jobseekers get to talk up their experience and expertise, connecting with dozens of employers in a relatively short amount of time. Employers, too, save time and money, interviewing and screening from a pool of hundreds of candidates.
Shadia Omer, KRA Digital and Multimedia Coordinator, reported, “More than 200 jobseekers attended, networking, collecting applications and other materials, and taking advantage of the interview opportunities presented by more than 30 employers, including Accent Care, GEICO, Hilton, Kelly Staffing Services, and Volt—some of which were prepared to hire on-the-spot!.”
One example includes a Kelly Staffing Services Senior Recruiter, who stated, “This was one of the best hiring events I’ve been to. Not only did I meet highly qualified candidates, I will be on-boarding five new hires and interviewing at least more 20 candidates next week.” In addition, Volt reported that after an interview, they made a job offer, and scheduled the candidate to start the next day!
Anna Guadarrama, Christina Rios, and Cam Richardson, were happy to see familiar faces from their job–search and career-development workshops, with Anna commenting , “The Fair was a great opportunity for our jobseekers to utilize their ’30-second personal commercials’ they had practiced for interviews. It was rewarding to observe them applying what they learned in the workshops.”
After Job-I-Con, an e-mail from a jobseeker stated, in part, “I wanted to thank you for organizing this job fair event. It was by far the best I have been to since I have been attending them around San Diego. Keep up the great work! You did a great job!”
