KRA is pleased to announce that a ground-breaking Graduation Ceremony was convened recently for 50 graduates, who either obtained employment; completed one or more occupational-skills development training programs; or an adult-education program through KRA’s Louisiana and Career Pathways Program.
Kiondra Chambliess, Program Manager, reported, “The key to our program’s success is undoubtedly the Educational & Occupational Training (EOT) component, which ensures that every participant is fully prepared for the employment opportunities they pursue.
“EOT programs—several of which required State approval and competency exams for certification and/or licensing—included Certified Nursing Assistant, CPR and First Aid, Customer Service, Dental Assistant Technician, Financial Literacy, GED Preparation, Medical Billing & Coding, Phlebotomy, and Professional Development, preparing participants for a wide variety of employment opportunities at an average hourly wage of $15.00.
“Among our employer-partners are Amazon (Warehouse & Work-From-Home Scanners), FedEx (Warehouse), Coastal Professional (Customer Care), Elite Health Services (CNA/Medical Billing & Coding), Paragon Casino (Accountant), and St. Francis Hospital (Phlebotomist). These placements speak volumes about EOT effectiveness and the skills our participants acquired.
“Following the Ceremony, a Hiring Fair—exclusively for DG Foods—was convened for interested graduates to interview for OJT opportunities as fulltime Poultry Portion Cutters. The positions include a starting hourly wage of $17.50, moving up to $18.00 after 60 days; a performance-based compensation program, with attainable incentives up to $27.00; and the opportunity to participate in the company’s benefit programs.”
Derrick Colbert, Director of Strategic Partnerships, stated, “The success of KRA’s Louisiana Program is a stellar example that, in less than a year, well-planned programs—with the resources and support required for implementation—can effectively move participants from welfare rolls to payrolls, resulting in real-life impact for them, their families, and their communities.”
