KRA Hosts Job Fair for Cianbro

Last week,  we reported on KRA’s ongoing, highly successful Job Fairs in June campaign in response to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration’s request that states, local WIBS, and American Job Centers sponsor a job fair during June to create opportunities for the workforce system, the One-Stop Career Centers, and all partners in the American Job Center Network.  In addition to the Hiring Event hosted by KRA/CTWorks for business-partner Solar City on June 7, 2012, they held another one for new business-partner, Cianbro. We will continue to report on the success of more KRA Job Fairs in June events in the coming weeks.

On Friday, June 8th and Monday, June 11th, the KRA/CTWorks Program hosted a Job Fair with Cianbro, a national construction firm headquartered in Maine with more than 4,000 employees in 12 different markets throughout the United States.  Ranked #88 on the Engineering News Record 2011 List of Top 400 Contractors, the company is best known for its self-performing capabilities and innovative, hands-on construction techniques in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Fabrication, and Coating.

When Cianbro contacted Millie Lopez-Cook, KRA Business Services Consultant, regarding assistance in filling Receptionist and Administrative Assistant positions in their Bloomfield, Connecticut office, she quickly organized a recruitment event at the KRA/CTWorks One-Stop Career Center in Hartford. With the assistance of other KRA team members, notably Career Agents and Job Developers, Lopez-Cook was able to provide Cianbro with 10 pre-screened, pre-qualified candidates from both the Workforce Investment Act and TANF/Jobs First Employment Services Programs.

The Cianbro Human Resources representative came to KRA/CTWorks and devoted 2 days to interviewing the candidates.  Upon the completion of the interviews, she stated to Lopez-Cook, and to Kim Staley, KRA Program Director, that she was impressed with the quality of candidates and how well-prepared they were for their interviews.  She also indicated she was going to inform her Manager of the positive experience she had working with KRA/CTWorks team, and assured them that Cianbro will continue to use the One-Stop as an on-going recruitment resource.

Lopez-Cook concluded, “As the recipient of over 62 years of awards, Cianbro has been nationally recognized as the Contractor of the Year, the Healthiest and Safest Company in America, and has received awards for Excellence in Construction, Build America, Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement, and Engineering.  We are all very pleased that such a prestigious company has selected the KRA/CTWorks team to assist with their present and future hiring needs.  We look forward to a mutually productive and rewarding relationship with our new business partner.”
