KRA/DC October Events Impact the “TANF for District Families” Community

The DC Department of Human Services (DHS) provides cash assistance to District families, supported by comprehensive case-management, educational development, occupational training, and job-placement services through TANF Employment Programs (TEP).

Employing a two-generation approach to serving families so that parents and children can grow together, KRA has been a TEP provider since 2012, and is proud to have provided pathways to self-sufficiency for thousands of recipients, earning KRA/DC a “Center of Excellence: 5 Star Customer Service” distinction.

Recently, Anthony Wilson, Program Director, reported on three impactful events held in October with the goal of raising awareness and maintaining supportive community for our TEP customers. A New/Returning Customer Open House on October 9, addressed TANF benefits, job-training programs, and support services available to program participants.

On October 28, KRA/DC hosted a Domestic Violence Awareness Training, equipping staff and customers with tools to recognize and respond effectively to domestic violence, highlighting its impact on economic stability. This training emphasized the importance of strong support systems for those affected.

The month concluded with a Harvest Festival and Career Resource Day on October 31, combining seasonal-celebration festivities with career-education activities that included resume-development workshops and a job fair with networking opportunities. Attendees connected with local employer-partners, e.g. the United States Postal Service, MGM International, and Community Tech LLC that provided one-on-one resume feedback, job-placement offers, IT training opportunities, and career-advancement guidance.

KRA remains dedicated to creating sustainable workforce solutions through ongoing collaboration with employers seeking qualified candidates, educational institutions, and community organizations that support local workforce initiatives. By working together, we can continue to expand the impact of our services, strengthen the DC community, and support families in achieving economic independence.
