KRA Customer Achieves Success Through Employment Recovery Initiative

An integral component of the San Diego Workforce Partnership Career Centers Program—operated by KRA—is the Employment Recovery Initiative (ERI), a WIOA Program for Dislocated Workers, unemployed due to actual or anticipated business closures or downsizing actions.

Aron Steck had been job-hunting for approximately 6 months, after his position—Senior Manager of Events for corporate- and association-conferences and tradeshows—was eliminated, as in-person events were severely curtailed, or cancelled altogether, due to COVID-19 restrictions.

He stated, “It was particularly devastating because it had taken me a couple of years to find that position, which I had been in only 4 months when the pandemic hit in March 2020.”

When Mr. Steck enrolled with KRA, Meldoney Webb, Career Agent, introduced him to the ERI Program and its Boot Camp component, in which he “was immediately interested because my strategies had been unsuccessful, and I had nothing to lose and everything to gain.”

“The Boot Camp curriculum was well organized, specific, and comprehensive in the areas that helped me the most, resume development and interviewing skills. I realized how little I knew about conducting a successful job search, and how to approach ‘behavioral questions’, for which the mock-interview feedback was incredibly helpful.”

After completing Boot Camp, and an expansive job search, Mr. Steck secured a position at the Birch Aquarium, Scripps Institution of Oceanography as Special Events Operations & Sales Manager, a position that “leverages all my event planning and sales experience.  I am so grateful for the program and the support I received from the staff.  Thank you for making such a positive difference in my life.”
