Charting the Course for Innovation: Highlights from the Geographic Solutions Workforce Technology Conference

The 2025 Geographic Solutions Workforce Technology Conference brought together a mix of workforce professionals, technologists, and thought leaders committed to shaping the future of workforce services. With the theme “Charting the Course for Innovation”, the event challenged attendees to embrace transformative technologies that make systems smarter, partnerships stronger, and service delivery more impactful.

Jonathan Overall, Director, Communications and Public Outreach, reports, “The conference opened with a session led by Deane Toler, Geographic Solutions CEO, who reflected on a year of innovation and growth for the firm. From new product launches to expanded functionality in areas such as labor market information, vocational rehabilitation, and apprenticeships, Toler’s keynote set the stage for 2 days of discovery. Notable updates included enhancements to the VOS Sapphire platform and the unveiling of Virtual LMI 3.0 tools designed to make service delivery more efficient and user-friendly.

“Throughout the 85 breakout sessions, participants explored a range of emerging tools and strategies shaping the future of workforce development. Topics included streamlining apprenticeship program management, maximizing customer-service workflows, and utilizing adult education tools to upskill jobseekers.

“Several sessions focused on adapting to funding reductions by integrating learning management platforms like Alison LMS. There were also in-depth discussions around unemployment insurance system upgrades, VOS integrations, and data transformation strategies, all reinforcing the importance of agile, data-driven systems.

“A standout general session featured a cross-sector panel including Ron Painter, Kevin Mohajerin, Ciaran Cannon, and Angela White. Together, they addressed one of the workforce system’s most pressing challenges: the skills gap. Their message was clear, success in today’s rapidly evolving labor market hinges on stronger alignment between data, employer needs, and workforce training systems

“Day 2 opened with an energizing keynote from NFL Hall of Famer Derrick Brooks, whose personal journey underscored the importance of perseverance, teamwork, and purpose—principles that resonate deeply with those working to transform lives through workforce services. The closing sessions spotlighted innovations like VOS Connect, which offers integrated access to benefits, and explored how adult education programs can serve as vital pipelines for today’s industries.”
