Who’s on FIRST? KRA!

The front page of the October 2010 NAWDP Newsletter reads “Who’s on FIRST? Serving Today’s Dislocated Workers”, and was entirely dedicated to KRA and the FIRST (Focused Intensive Reemployment Success Training) program. The article begins with an anecdotal story about “John” and “Sally” who have lost their livelihoods due to the recessionary economy. John and Sally are “dislocated workers”, who for the most part are skilled career professionals with post-secondary educations and extensive employment experience. KRA Youth Discover Chess is Hip…Hop

One of KRA’s Youth Employability and Success program sites, Lake Taylor High School, offers a “Hip-Hop Chess Club”, an initiative of the Norfolk Police Department and the Norfolk Chess Federation. The Club encourages and improves mentoring relationships between youth and police and, more importantly, improves students’ critical thinking skills. It was reported previously that a KRA Corporation/CTWorks management team conducted a workshop on the innovative FIRST (Focus, Intensive, Re-employment, Success, Training) Program model to an SRO crowd at the NAWDP conference in New Mexico. KRA and YES Youth Build Bridge to the Future

On September 1, 2010, Thomas Davis, KRA Corporation Education and Case Management Specialist, held an Orientation for five new enrollees, 16 to 21, in the YES (Youth Employability and Success) Program, a recent addition to Camden program services. KRA/CTWorks’ Karen Brown, Assistant Director;  Alberto Magriz, Team Lead; and Jerry Santostefano, Customer Service Representative/Office Assistant, attended the 4th Annual New England Professional Development Conference for Workforce Development Professionals as presenters for the KRA Corporation’s innovative Pantry Point Program (PPP). Designed as an incentive program, customers who meet their employment plan requirements can redeem points at the Pantry for a wide variety of foodstuffs and other products. KRA Exceeds Contract Requirement!

The good news is that KRA Corporation’s Community Work Experience Program (CWEP)  team placed 216 customers in community work experience jobs during its first year of service! The great news is that the CWEP exceeded the contract goal by 53 placements!!  Also, 95 customers were assisted with transitioning to either an occupational training or skills training program, and 44 customers were placed in unsubsidized jobs.
