César Chávez was born on March 31st, 1927 and by just 10 years old he was working as a farmworker in California with his parents, four siblings and 400,000 other men, women and children. The poor living conditions, low pay (often no more than 10 cents per hour per family) and profound discrimination he experienced led Chávez to social justice work.
