Since 2012, KRA has supported the DC Department of Human Services as a TANF Employment Program (TEP) Provider, delivering Career Services designed to help customers build the skills and experience needed for long-term success.
Through KRA/TEP’s Education, Occupation, and Training component, jobseekers receive comprehensive workforce-preparation services that lead to sustainable employment and meaningful career pathways.
In January 2026, KRA/TEP launched a partnership with DC Central Kitchen’s (DCCK) Culinary Job Training Program (CJTP), a free 14-week course that prepares participants for careers in the Food Service and Hospitality Industries, which span seven core sectors, including traditional restaurants, lodging/hotels, catering, institutional food service facilities (hospitals, senior-living communities, and schools), food manufacturing, retail, and travel/tourism.
In February 2026, KRA/TEP hosted a CJTP Orientation Session, conducted by DCCK, and almost immediately one highly motivated attendee, Jacqueline Harris, expressed an interest in exploring career options in the culinary industry and began working with Michael Blackson, Outreach Specialist, to apply for the next CJTP cohort.
With Mr. Blackson’s ongoing support and guidance, Ms. Harris enrolled in the CJTP on March 9, 2026, completing the program on June 26, 2026, with four certifications, i.e., ServSafe Food Handler; AllerTrain, an allergy and gluten-free training program; CPR, and TMC (Transcendental Meditation Course.
Since graduation, she is considering several job offers received from employers including P.J. Clarke’s, Giordano’s, and Wonder Food Hall, —opportunities reflecting the strength of her training, her commitment to success, and the value of workforce partnerships that connect customers to real career pathways.
As the first CJTP graduate, Ms. Harris has set a powerful example for 13 other KRA/TEP customers who attended a DCCK Orientation on June 25th, 2026, and are completing the application process required for enrollment in the next cohort.
Ms. Harris’s accomplishment reflects her commitment to personal growth and her determination to build a better future through training and employment. Her success also highlights the value of strong partnerships and targeted workforce-development opportunities that support KRA/TEP customers in moving from interest to action and from training to career advancement.
