Each September, California’s workforce community gathers in Monterey for the California Workforce Association’s Meeting of the Minds (MMM). This year’s theme—Fearless Forward: Turning Uncertainty into Opportunity—framed three days of ideas, leadership, and action.
Dr. Kevin J. Fleming opened by challenging the field to “redefine the goal,” urging leaders to meet ambiguity with clarity and confidence. Uncertainty, he reminded us, is not an obstacle but an invitation to lead differently and strengthen the systems that support our communities.
KRA contributed on multiple fronts. Jonathan Overall, host of The Hub podcast, captured the pulse of the event through interviews with workforce leaders, policymakers, and technology CEOs. Our People & Culture team facilitated Leadership Reimagined: Empowering Workforce Development Leaders to Shape the Future, a workshop showcasing KRA’s Leadership Edge framework—combining project-management discipline with priorities like AI integration, wellness, and culture. Participants left with practical tools for leading teams through complexity.
A pivotal National Policy Panel—Brad Turner-Little, John Chamberlin, Ron Painter, and Robert Knight—confronted funding uncertainties and policy shifts with pragmatic strategies. The message: stay unified, adaptable, and grounded in data-driven storytelling; strengthen advocacy; and amplify the role of local boards and community partners in shaping WIOA’s future.
The conference closed with a Workforce 2030 keynote, underscoring that automation, AI, and demographic change are already reshaping work. To thrive, leaders must move fearlessly forward—innovating while staying anchored to the mission of opportunity for all.
For KRA, MMM is more than professional development; it affirms our commitment to advancing the workforce system in partnership with CWA and leaders nationwide. In uncertain times, it is workforce leaders—together—who chart the path ahead.
