Lekia Smith’s first visit to a DC Department of Human Services’ (DHS) facility was to apply for TANF financial-assistance benefits, her second to take advantage of a volunteer Work Experience (WE) opportunity, and the third–to report for work! Mr. Nagee Abdullah, NIA Solutions’ Owner and GM, visited PGWorks and conducted an orientation, in response to which 12 NPEP customers registered for a 3-day training. In October 2014, we reported that in June 2010, Candas Taylor was working successfully as a Contract Attorney with a DC law firm. Three years later, she was unemployed and supporting her family on Unemployment Insurance benefits.
