KRA Attracts New Business Partner – KRA’s Camden, New Jersey multi-program operation has established a business partnership with Holmes Crabs, which recently re-opened its doors on the Camden waterfront after a 7-year hiatus. Thomas Davis, KRA Team Leader approached Jay Banks, the restaurant’s Public Relations Manager, and shared with him the many benefits, services, and resources available through KRA/Camden’s workforce development programs. On July 8, 2011, Jeff Ward, KRA Out-of-School (OSY) and Adult Program Business Developer, and Pat Davis, KRA/OSY Career Agent were invited to Turnstyle Enterprises, Inc., and presented with a must-see video produced by their Work Experience and On-the-Job Training participants. On June 29, 2011, Charles Botts, III, Job Developer and Team Lead with the KRA/CTWorks One-Stop operation in Connecticut’s North Central Region, appeared on the local Fox affiliate TV station’s, Fox 61, news program Good Morning Connecticut. He was tapped to appear on the show as part of the station’s ongoing effort to assist viewers, who are also jobseekers, in improving their chances of employment. KRA Team Joins Operation Paintbrush

At 8:30am on June 25, 2011, staff volunteers from the Henrico County KRA/Resource Program met up with “Julia”, Operation Paintbrush Supervisor, to begin painting the home of a local elderly couple. Unfortunately, some “prep” work on the main structure was still in progress, so the house was not quite ready for a complete face lift. Undaunted, the KRA team grabbed brushes, ladders, and paint and got busy on the house’s trim. Ignoring the heat, the team enjoyed the morning’s task and felt great about helping older citizens who lack the ability to take on such tasks themselves. Once the trim

KRA Youth Cater to the Elderly

On June 24, 2011, five Horry County Waccamaw Occupational Work-readiness (WOW) Program student-participants attended a culinary arts lecture and hands-on workshop facilitated by Ms. Esther Strickland, owner of a local retail store, who has volunteered her time and culinary talent for the community’s needy and disabled for the past 40 years. Following her lead, in a kitchen provided by a local church, the students were able to create meals that they took to 13 elderly and disabled senior citizens in the community. Atterbeary visited KRA’s Camden County program, a multi-service operation that provides educational and workforce development services to Youth participants, TANF recipients, and those eligible for the County’s General Assistance Program. KRAchievers Raise Awareness and Money

On June 4, 2011, the KRAchievers team from the Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare (VIEW) Program participated in the Relay for Life 2011 Walk for a Cure at Harbor Park. Since 2006, the KRAchievers have found this annual event to be both motivating and humbling for the staff. To date, the team has raised more than $400, and they’re not finished yet, having until August 31, 2011, to sponsor and/or participate in more events to raise money for the American Cancer Society campaign.
