KRA Helps Parents Get Back on Track With NPEP

Funded by the Prince George’s County [MD] Department of Social Services, in partnership with the Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE), KRA operates the Non-Custodial Parent Employment Program (NPEP), which provides job-placement assistance for individuals struggling with child-support payments due to lack of employment.

PG County - Child Support ImageIn April, when OCSE referred “David” to NPEP, he had not worked fulltime since 2009; consequently, producing income was a very sporadic occurrence.  With a wife and five children to support, he was delinquent on court-ordered maintenance payments to the mother of other children.  Exacerbating the situation, David’s arrears had negatively impacted his credit history, and a low score was impeding his ability to obtain work.

Rhonda Feimster, Career Agent, encouraged David to attend a KRA Spring Job Fair, co-sponsored by the KRA/DC TANF Employment Program, where he met with a Walgreens recruiter.  David was selected for an interview, and impressed the Store Manager, who offered him a Shift Leader position.  After successful background checks and drug screenings, David started work on June 3, 2015.

With Rhonda’s continuing encouragement and support, David is taking advantage of Walgreens’  training and development opportunities, setting his future sights on becoming a Walgreens Store Manager himself.  For the present, David is happy to be working again and contributing to his child-support obligation.
