KRA/Camden Youth Volunteer at Seniors' Health Fair

Recently, participants enrolled in the WIA Out-of-School (OSY) Program, operated by KRA for the Camden County [NJ] Workforce Investment Board, volunteered to assist with a Health Fair for Seniors, hosted by Better Tomorrows at the Roosevelt Manor Community Center.

Tailored to their individual needs, OSY students receive GED preparation; work-readiness training; instruction and certification in the fields of Microsoft Digital Literacy and Hospitality Services; and assistance with job-search and placement and/or community college admission.

At the Fair, the OSY volunteers registered the seniors, directed them to participating agencies and vendors, distributed pamphlets, handed out snacks and juice, and served lunch to all the attendees.  Seniors took advantage of the opportunity to speak with Healthcare providers, participate in blood pressure, vision, and other screenings; and to schedule mammograms.

Kimberley Smith-Bristow, Program Manager, commented, “The youth really enjoyed assisting the seniors, experiencing those special feelings that result from doing something, selflessly, for someone else in the community.  The Health Fair will be held annually, and we look forward to KRA/OSY participating in the future!”
