Greater Hartford KRA Community Care Campaign

In October—National Domestic Violence Awareness Month—as part of its Sixth Annual Community Care Campaign (CCC), KRA Corporation donated $2,500  to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and KRA programs nationwide raised another $,5000 that was donated, in cash and/or goods, to local advocate-agencies and shelters that provide direct support to victims of domestic abuse.

At the Greater Hartford American Job Center/CTWorks, funded by Capital Workforce Partners, KRA staff contacted three shelters—Prudence Crandall Center, My Sister’s Place, and Interval House—to explore what was most needed by the residents.

Armed with information, KRA staff organized several fund-raisers, including “Dress Up Your Jeans” days, resulting in an impressive $855! Also, supporters of Lisa Lazarus, KRA Business Services Consultant, donated $605 as part of a team that participated in a Greater Hartford ½ Marathon to raise $5,000 for My Sister’s Place.

The funds raised, combined with personal KRA-staff contributions, resulted in donations of 3,168 baby wipes, 2,552 diapers, and 25 pillows; $35 in gift cards/$60 in cash; and gently-used and new children’s and women’s clothing and shoes and toiletries.  Awareness-raisers included staff participation in a Candle-Light Vigil, a “Let’s Talk” Community Blitz, and domestic-violence presentations at two KRA “All-Staff” meetings.
